What is a Pool Heat Pump?

How does it work?
And when do you need one?

Pool heat pumps are quiet and efficient and can operate as a standalone heating solution or may be added to compliment to a solar pool heating system. Heat pumps use ambient air to efficiently heat your pool water, providing consistent temperature control with low operating costs.

Most customers consider installing a pool heat pump in these scenarios:

• Looking for a reliable system to heat a pool-and-spa combination.

• Adding a heat pump to a solar heating system for faster heat and more control over desired temperature.

• Replacing an old or failing pool heater.

Analyzing the details

Deciding which model is best
for you, your pool & your heating goals

There are various issues to consider when choosing the exact model that fits your needs. Pool size is the first consideration, but other factors also play an important role in narrowing down your choice.

Are you heating a pool and a hot tub? How often do you use your pool? How important is speed in reaching your desired temperature? Are you combining solar pool heat along with an electric heater? We discuss and analyze all these details with you when helping decide the right model for your needs.

A complete installation survey

Electrical set-up issues are crucial to a safe install
We are certified, licensed electricians

When surveying your property prior to installation, we also inspect your electrical set-up to determine proper breaker and wire sizes. This step prevents possible electrical issues during and after installation.

Many other installers are neither properly licensed nor insured. Most are not licensed electricians. Without a thorough electrical inspection, improper installation can lead to serious hazards such as fires and unit failure. In these situations, there may be no insurance coverage protecting the homeowner from costly damages or liability. Another reason to trust Advance Solar & Spa.

ANSWERS TO YOUR
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long has Advance Solar & Spa been installing pool heat pumps?

We’ve been in business over 40 years, since 1983 and have been installing pool heat pumps from day one. All of our installations are handled in-house by our own installers; we never use sub-contractors. We are also certified electricians which insures a correct, quality installation. Many heat pump installers are not certified as electricians, which can lead to various issues with your install and performance. We are trusted, certified, and experienced in all areas of heat pump installations.

How many heat pump installations do you typically do in a year?

We average approximately 100 heat pump installs each year.

What does it cost to run a heat pump to heat my pool?

We can review your pool and your heating goals and give you accurate estimates on the costs involved in heating your pool. Electric appliance manufacturers are continually making strides in all industries to achieve maximum efficiency. The GulfStream is a state-of-the art heater, up to date to with all manufacturing improvements and is the most efficient heat pump on the market.

Are permits required to for heat pump installations?

Permits are not usually required, however, in certain situations one may be required. If a permit is required, we handle that process for you from beginning to end.

How does an electric heat pump compare to gas heaters or solar pool heating?

Gas heaters are much more expensive to run to keep your pool heated. Florida’s environment provides nearly perfect conditions to run electric pool heaters. The operating cost, therefore is much lower than what gas heat can provide.

Solar pool heating is another great way to heat Florida pools, but doesn’t offer the same control that an electric pool heater provides. Cloudy days will impact how warm your pool is. A great way to achieve optimum pool heat is to combine solar pool heating with a heat pump. This gives you the benefits of free pool heating from Florida sunshine, with the heat pump kicking in when cloudy weather appears. This combination of solar and electric heating can give you what we call “The Endless Summer” effect.

What heat pump brand and models do you install?

We install the efficient and reliable GulfStream pool heat pumps made in the USA. There are three different sized models –  the HE-100, HE-125 and HE-150 models, depending on pool size. All models use high-quality controls and unique features highlighting efficiency and ease of use. GulfStream also offers the longest and strongest service warranty in the industry.

Can customers see and view the GulfStream heat pump before an installation takes place?

Yes, we have all models in our showroom at Advance Solar & Spa. Feel free to come to our location in Fort Myers to see the various GulfStream models and ask any questions in person.

What is involved in an in-home consultation? What should I expect when one of your representatives comes to my home to review my pool heating needs?

Our representative will do an overall survey to adequately size the unit to the needs of the pool. The representative will also inspect your electrical set-up to determine proper breaker and wire sizes. This step prevents possible electrical issues during and after installation. We explain all aspects of the warranty and warranty options with you, as well as answer any questions you have regarding the unit, various models or the installation process.

I work with a pool-service company to maintain my pool and they also offer pool heat pumps and installations. Why should I work with Advance Solar & Spa?

Pool service technicians do not generally perform the comprehensive evaluation and steps outlined the question above. In many cases, they are neither properly licensed nor insured. Most are not licensed electricians. Without a thorough electrical inspection, improper installation can lead to serious hazards such as fires and unit failure. In these situations, there may be no insurance coverage protecting the homeowner from costly damages or liability.
